Chicago – day 3

Our day started off with taking the Green Line to the West Side neighborhood to visit Haymarket Pub & Brewery. We had a very friendly bartender who liked to talk shop which is always fun for us. I had Lizzie’s Simcoe Double IPA and since it was Craft Beer Week in Chicago they were also having a tap takeover by Wiseacre Brewing in Memphis, Tennessee we had a few of theirs too. The best one was Off in Space, a Russian Imperial Stout that was so yummy. Neon Brown was a brown ale that tasted more like an IPA and Snowbeard was a hoppy and sweet Barleywine. If I’m ever in Memphis…I’ll have to find this brewery.

We took the Green Line back to State Street and decide to walk along Lake Shore Drive and through Grant Park towards Shed Aquarium. It’s always nice walking along Lake Shore. I remember running and rollerblading there back in my college days. It was a beautiful day and people were everywhere. I told hubby that the fountain that is shown at the beginning of Married with Children is Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park so, of course, we had to check it out.

Shed Aquarium was a place that I went to many times while growing up in IL so it holds a special place in my heart. We saw the dolphin show that looks out over Lake Michigan which was just as I remembered it.

Next on our agenda and one of the main reasons that we even found ourselves in Chicago…the Yankees/White Sox game. We got there early to watch batting practice and the Derek Jeter tribute. It was a beautiful ballpark and so very different than Wrigley.

We had great seats along the first base line.

In fact our seats were so great that hubby got a foul ball that was pitched by Hiroki Kuroda! We couldn’t believe it! He was so cute about it too…like a little kid. I’m happy to report that he has put the ball in a case and has it displayed in our home.
