Hiking – GGC – Horseshoe Trail 05/18/16

Puppy and I hiked the Horseshoe Trail in Golden Gate Canyon State Park. We started out at about 9:50 in the morning and were back down to the car at 11:10am. The weather was perfectly cool and sunny.

The trail was a gradual climb with rocks and roots making is somewhat of a technical hike. For the first half of the trail it paralleled the creek, crossing it several times.

About 20 min into the hike the trail takes a series of switchbacks until it levels out for a bit. Muddy conditions existed for some of the way due to snow-melt and recent rains.

We made it to the junction with the Mule Deer Trail in about 45 minutes.

This is where the Horseshoe trail ends but you can continue on to Mule Deer or we could have taken the trail towards Rim Meadow and join up with Black Bear if we wanted a different way to get back down.

Black Bear and Horseshoe trails are connected by a .4 mile trail near the two trail-heads making it easy to do a loop instead of an out and back. This trail was really enjoyable and one that I should try running in the future.
