Hiking – Beaver GGCSP 05/30/16

It was Memorial Day weekend and usually that means that every camping and hiking area in Colorado is packed to the gills. I had already decided that puppy and I would hike the Beaver trail in Golden Gate Canyon State Park for a couple different reasons: first, it’s the only trail that is on the south side of Hwy 46 making it less desirable for some people, second, it is rated as most difficult which is also less desirable for many people. We got on the trail early as to avoid people too. I parked at Slough Pond and took the connector trail to Beaver. It was perfectly shaded and flat. Once we got to Beaver we took the northern part of the loop to ascend. Beaver trail is basically a 2.5 mile loop where you climb the entire way to the top and then descend the other side. I think counter-clockwise was the best way to do that loop. We only saw 2 people on our way down which made for a nice quite hike on Memorial Day weekend.
