Today :)

It was such a splendid day that I just had to write it all down.

So today started out with driving down the canyon in the dark but being able to watch the sun slowly rise. It was beautiful! My pictures don’t do it justice.

I went to the gym to swim. One of the pools at the gym is outside (where I choose to swim) and it was beautiful this morning.  The air was brisk but the pool warm (at least after a few laps). I relaxed and just swam, no goals, no time limits, no hard core drills. It was great!

I got to work and realized that because of a University of Colorado football game I got to leave work 1.5 hours early. This just made me giddy all day. Getting to leave 1.5 hours early and not having to use vacation time is rare for a government employee. So my workday went fast and was quite enjoyable.

The Great American Beer Fest (GABF) is in Denver this weekend and I have been looking forward to it all week so I decided to stop by the Southern Sun (with my extra time today) to partake in one of their beer entries for the competition. I asked the bartender to fill my growler with the amazing Vagabond IPA. Since this was going to take awhile 😉 I also asked for an 8oz pour of the fabulous Hop Vivant. Oh glorious beer!

On the way home I played some music that the hubby and I are really enjoying lately: Old Crow Medicine Show “Wagon Wheel” and The SteelDrivers “Where Rainbows Never Die”. Trust me these are the kinds of songs that make you wanna belt them out as loud as you can…and yes I did! I must have looked silly to other people but I didn’t care. I put on a great stage performance from behind the wheel, though I got no applause.

I drove up the dirt back-roads to go home. Driving on dirt roads is the ultimate in commuting options.

In a large clearing there were a herd of at least 50 elk. I slowed way down and just watched the magnificent animals as I passed. There was a really large male with a big rack standing in the middle of all the other elk. I think he knew that he “rocked”.

A little farther down the road there were two adult deer and two fawns standing in the road. I came to a stop and watched as they gathered together and crossed safely. The babies were so terrible cute. I just wanted to hug them (I know, bad idea, I’m just saying).

As I pulled into our “neighborhood” I saw a coyote. Okay enough of just enjoying the animals…I needed to try to take some pictures. Below are the best pics that I got. He was quite brave and did not care in the slightest that I was there but was continually moving which made photographing him difficult.

And now as I sit here writing this I can’t believe that this is just a work day for me. I live in a very beautiful place where I have many opportunities to experience and see awesome things. Great beer at the end of a day also helps!

    • I work in Boulder, CO and live in the mountains west of there. It’s a beautiful place with awesome animal sightings fairly regularly. Thanks for reading!

  2. I am happy to hear that you love your life! It is beautiful out there and your pictures rock. Wow extra time….I remember how that feels too. Exciting.
